Laser Altimeter
Laser Altimeter

Laser altimeters are lidar systems that measure height or altitude above the ground from airborne or ground-based platforms. They emit a laser pulse toward the surface, measure the time it takes for the pulse to reach the ground and return to the sensor, and then calculate the distance to determine elevation or altitude. They are used for topographic mapping, assessing forest canopies, measuring vegetation heights, monitoring changes in ice sheet elevation, and making real-time altitude measurements.
